Ian Bamber

Common Blue
E10 on macro setting
1\400 @ f5

Why We Chose It:
Taking butterfly shots outside can be a very frustrating experience, they always seem to take flight just as the wind dies down and the flower has stopped waving around. The other difficulty is that in working at a macro setting depth of field becomes quite limited and is therefore an issue to deal with. Ian has tackled all of these issues and has come out with a well executed shot - all of the bits that should be sharp are sharp and the composition and colours are very pleasing.

Misty morning Loche Erne
Misty morning Loche Erne
Saw the sun coming through the mist one Sunday morning about 6-30am .Took my Fuji4700 and had a satisfying time.

Why We Chose It:
The misty conditions, the boat, the swan and the still water all combine to provide a consistent feel to the image - we feel that it was well spotted and well composed. The exposure is good, in what might have been difficult conditions with a reasonably bright sky emerging as the sun came up. The tranquility of the image is its strength.

Urchin
Spotted whilst looking for otters on the west coast of Scotland. A 1-second exposure.

Why We Chose It:
The subject first grabbed our attention - it is unusual to see a sea urchin in this setting. The soft pastel colours of the urchin and the rocks against the grey foaming sea also create an unusual setting and an unusual set of colour contrasts. The urchin is nicely placed on the intersection of the thirds lines and the exposure is spot on.
