Dave Stewart

Spitfire Mk Vc
Gaints Causeway, The different shape rocks and a constant change in weather mean you can spend hours there.

Why We Chose It:
This is a lovely shot of a spitfire, the late afternoon light, the mottled background of the sky and the blur of the propeller all add up to a great photo. The subject is placed pretty much in the centre of the frame - which of course we are often told is not appropriate - yet somehow here it works and it just goes to show that compositional 'rules' are there to be tested and where appropriate broken.

Nick Tsinonis

Brittany Bridge

Why We Chose It:
We felt that this was an interesting, even intriguing shot. The composition is nice, with the strong pattern caused by the bridge cables - a slightly more central position may have improved the shot by making it more symmetrical, but in our view it is the brooding sky and the 4 pedestrians that make the shot. The intrigue lies in the question: where are they going?

Mike Best

Owl in Flight
One of my best shots to date, Feb 2002. Early morning, provia 100 800mm lens, bean bag, 250th sec f5.6 panned from the van as he took off after eating a vole.

Why We Chose It:
We feel that this is a very good flight shot, the bird is sharp, with a nice catchlight in the eye. The sense of movement given by the blurred wings adds to the shot and the composition is good, with plenty of space for the owl to 'fly into'. The light is also very nice.
